712s are terrible tires, I know people that had bad experiences with them as in they don't consistantly handle the same each time you hop in the car.
I'd recommend Yokohama ES100s, Falkens (any model really) or Dunlop Direzzas.

The BF Goodridge KD and the BF Goodridge KDW-NT ("new thread") also know as the KDW2, are good tires. The KD is a dry "summer tire", the KDW is both wet and dry. They are not "Cheap" in any respect though. The performance is great, but like many higher end tires (like Pirrelli) the price reflects it. If you can afford it I'df recommend it.
When I need new tires those are what I am most likely going to go with, as my I have been told my Pirrelli P7000 Supersports are discontuined. Sad too...they really COULD handle light snow like Pirrelli claimed. Had to drive home in a blizzard 2 winters ago from Seattle to Portland with em (and no traction device since studs/chains + 17's = not going to happen, LOL). They were a good all-around all weather tire. They were great in the rain, never hydroplains at all..and really COULD handle light mud and snow (like the M+S rating suggested). Oh well, the Goodridge KDW's are better dry and wet tires anyway.

![]() But seriously, I'm waiting for the Falken Azenis RT-615s to come out in 215/45 16 anytime soon here. Another good tire I hear is the Bridgestone Potenza RE730. Or if you really like Kumho, I'd highly suggest the Ecsta MX over the 712's.

Re: Re: Re: best tires for 205/40 17
i have the kumho ectsa 711 tires... no they are not the best tire out there... but for summer tires they are great... theyre real inexspensive for 17's. i just cant afford to spend 150 dollars on a tire... otherwise, im sure i would see how much better they get...but compare to a normal tire... kumho tires are great

Re: Re: best tires for 205/40 17
you could also go to a website where tires are rated... and some even break it down... like dry weather, wet weather. etc... you can compare them agains other very good tires and see how they match up
