supercharger
I have a 95 Gt convertable and I am going to supercharge it. Well I found a rather cheap vortech supercharger and I was planning on putting it on after I upgrade the fuel system and do a few other things. I then ran across a guy I work with who has a kenne-bell intake mounted supercharger and we got into a discussion about it. He was telling me about the vortech, which is a centrifugal(sp?) SC and that it has a lower power ration on the low end kinda like a turbo. Now I was under the impression that a supercharger had nothing like this because well it's a supercharger not a turbo. But he was telling me with the kenne-bell he has on his car that he has the power constant. I thought this would be true with the vortech too, but no I am questioning it. Is he right about the vortech not having much power on the low end because it has to "spin up" like a turbo? I mean would it be worth buying this vortech(which is at a very nice and affordable price) or holding out for the much more expensive kenee bell? This guy has a 94 GT convertable same as mine pretty much.

Re: supercharger
well the vortech will still make a big difference, but yes it is a basically a belt driven turbo. the kenne bell does have max power at a much lower rpm, its constant like he says. so yeah hes right. but hey man if the price is good go for it

You're basically totally wrong, and so is he.
Vortech's don't make piss all for low end boost. They make boost linearly with RPM's. That is, as your motor revs higher, the blower spins faster, and makes more boost. A Turbocharger makes more power and torque than a centrifugal everywhere across the RPM band. An average turbo for a stock 302 will make full boost by about 2500 RPM's, and at the latest no more than about 3000. At that point the Vortech might be making 2 pounds of boost, if that. That's why you see Vortech cars that make, say, 425 RWHP and 375 RWTQ. Then you see a turbo car at the same boost level making 475 RWHP and 600 RWTQ, it's because they have all that mid range boost and power. Don't get suckered into the traditional myth that "Blowers have great boost response because they have no turbo lag" because that isn't true with Vortechs and other centrifugals. They arn't getting the snot beat out of them in racing circuits by Turbos because Turbos have lag and make no low end power. |

Re: supercharger
Ive got a Vortech S-trim I'm putting on my car soon. Although I havent run the SC yet I'm happy with the quality. Centrifugal superchargers tend to be a good bang for the buck if you want to spin your motor up a little.
