'95 Cutless Supreme geting hot?

My friend she has a '95 Cutless Supreme that gets hot like 240 degrees hot but does not over heat. It only gets this hot when it is in stoped traffic or idling? If you put it in N and rev it or move at all it goes back to 190? I have flushed and refilled the coolant with 50/50 mix. The Main electric fan does come on at 240 degrees and holds it there? A/C does not work so that it not an issue.

I'd almost bet that the thermostat is sticking when you're stopped in traffic. I've had that same problem several times before and a new t-stat corrected it.

The Thermostat is REAL hard to get to on the 3100 series engine it is BEHIND the manifold pipe going to the back bank on the SIDE of the block!! Only 2 cm. of clearance there as well!!

That's probably the problem though. If you don't have it changed soon it's going to stick for good and you'll overheat, possibly harming your engine. If you have the right tools it's not too awfully hard to change.

What are teh right tools? Looks like just two bolts that hold it in. The hard part is pulling the housing off after being on there 142k!! Behind a EXHAUST MANIFOLD WITH 2CM OF CLEARACE!!! GM should be shot for this design!!

Re: '95 Cutless Supreme geting hot?

Hello, I had the same exact problem with my car that shortlid has except I did the radiator flush, I changed my thermostat and it was still causing the problem of getting hot but not over heating. The needle in the dashboard to gets up to the red mark but does not go in the red. So I thought maybe it was the thermostat sensor, changed that out, no change, I don't know what to do now, the water pump isn't making any noise, the fans in front of the radiator come on, the top radiator hose is not too firm but not squishy. I am so flustered right now, can anyone help me, please
