Unhappy what motor should I use.

Hi people,

I just purchased a 1995 Pontiac Transport for the low price of $50.00. The motor was gone in the van, it had a 3.1 L. I am getting mixed messages/comments about the motors. should I go with another 3.1 or should I upgrade to a 3.8 instead. We will be doing a lot of travelling with the van so I want something that is good on the highway as well as good on fuel. If I do upgrade is there a big process involved in doing this. Any help would be great on this topic. Thanks very much. Chris

Was anything else missing or just the motor? Based off of what others have said here in the past, if you upgrade engines you are also going to have to change the tranny, wiring harnesses, PCM, etc. It's not just the engine that you are swapping.

My 95 has the 3.1 and other then the wonderful head gaskets going...... its been a great engine. Not as peppy as the 3.8, but not that bad. I recommend if you use a replacement 3.1, redo the head gaskets before installing it back into the van.
