even with safc II car is still running way too rich
i have went through all the settings and directions. i have a early 90's 300zx maf sensor. i have done the 2in and 5 out thing already.. and the car still runs way too rich..lots of spuddering and black smoke..is there anything else i need to program? how would i use the safcII to cure the running rich problem?
thanks -Dustin |

Is your BOV vented or recirc?

Re: even with safc II car is still running way too rich
yeah if you vent the BOV into the air you will run rich regardless of what else you do

mines is just into the air but i'll be sure to try and recirculate it into the intake. maybe that will work.

Re: even with safc II car is still running way too rich
make sure you recirculate it AFTER the MAF sensor
putting it in the front of the intake wont make any difference it needs to be between the MAF sensor and the turbo

Re: even with safc II car is still running way too rich
Wrong Wrong Wrong.....
If you have a SAFC, go here and look for Dec.air settings. This will allow you to run open atmosphere BOV. For future reference, your car will only run rich when you let off the gas. Second, what kind of injectors are you running? Third, get a wideband or get on a dyno. IN-Out settings are different from car to car. Try different ones to see which works the best for you. And, lol, the SAFC is to cure running rich. You tune fuel out with it. You can pull fuel at different RPM points. You'll have to search on NICO or 240sxfourms for that one.

Re: even with safc II car is still running way too rich
how can it correct running rich when the sensors that it gets its A/F ratio information from is reading wrong? in order to correct it you would have to run super lean at speed so your car wouldnt die every time you pull up to a stopsign.

Re: even with safc II car is still running way too rich
Using the SAFC, the SAFC itself only uses throttle position to control fuel on deceleratoin. AFAIK, it takes readings from when you program it(airflow percentage and throttle percentage) and utilizes your settings to control fuel when you let off the gas. The SAFC will see whatever throttle percentage you programmed at 2k RPM and automatically send whatever MAFS voltage it recorded when you programmed the Dec.air settings. Then when it sees zero throttle percentage, it will send out whatever airflow voltage you programmed in for zero throttle percentage. At least thats my take on it.
Once again, the SAFC only fools the computer. Thats all it can do.

Re: even with safc II car is still running way too rich
Dude... you guys gotta dyno-tune those SAFC-2's to get them to work properly...
