2001 CEL code

I got a PO301 code yesterday. Now recently I have been having trouble with a lose plug wire on cyl. 1. Could this be the cause, maybe a fouled plug? I hope this is the problem because I've seen a few posts about this on other boards and some of them don't sound good. Those were foreign cars however so help me out. Thanks folks.
