Building HP from a Celica...

Hey, my friend wants to build some power out of his Celica GTS (the new kind with 350Z style headlights, sorry, not much of a Celica buff) but doesnt know how much power he can make and what to put on to make that power. He doesnt want to get into internals or turbo but anything else is fair game. Thanks to all who respond, I appreciate it. -Thor06

Cold Air Intake: TPR, AEM, or Injen

Exhaust: TRD Kazuma, TRD, or TPR (Kazuma is the only cat-back exhaust for the Celica and it is also VERY VERY loud. All other exhaust systems are axle-back.)

Header: Porting the stock header out with a die grinder will get better results than any other aftermarket header out for the GT-S.

Engine Management: Apex'i PowerFC!!! This is the best mod period for the GT-S.

Also pick up a Hondata Intake Manifold Gasket. It helps keep the Intake Manifold cool.

Also weight reduction works wonders on the GT-S. With these mods and weight reduction you will be well into the 13's if you can drive the car.

Is your friend's GT-S a 6-speed or auto?

Thumbs up

Be careful with these bolt on parts for the new celica. Toyota tweaked this thing to have some good power stock. Most 1.8L motors don't put out 180 hp bare bones stock. The headers are already made of mandrel bent tubing, stock exhaust is almost 2 1/4 inch. Your probably best off doing a CAI. Check out this project and you may be able to learn something from them: www.sportcompactcarweb.com/ projectcars/0009scc_projcelica/

"Unfortunately, while the top three gears in the six-speed transmission are spaced perfectly, 6000 rpm in any of them is deep into go-to-jail territory. The first three cogs, on the other hand, are spaced too far apart and it is impossible to stay above 6000 rpm, even by pushing into the redline and shifting at the fuel cut. Redline shifts put you at 5050 rpm in second and 5635 rpm in third, so the engine feels like a pipey two-stroke or old-fashioned turbo with lag till tomorrow."

-Quoted from that link.

They couldn't drive this car right if their life depended on it.. I would take everything they say about the GT-S with a grain of salt.
