odd and even

Is it true that the concept of odd and even is a philosophical illusion?

Re: odd and even

I'd think the concept came about during the division of property. An even number allowed both people the same benefit, where the odd number did not. "Even" has many uses but they all suggest equality.

Re: odd and even

Odd and even are more of a mathematical explanation rather than a philosophical illusion. Like fred said equal has an equal mate. Odd does not. There is no illusion about it.

yes. If it is odd then it cannot be made even. No illusions.

in a mathematical sense, two odds are even, two evens are even a even and odd are odd. Thats refering to whole numbers.

I hope I didn't give him a new topic.......

Re: odd and even

Just break it down to binary:

Evens:
1 + 1 = 0

0 + 0 = 0

Odd:
0 + 1 = 1

Odd how the odd is actually odd, with only one combination.
