i was told that my evaporator core was clogged......... can anyone tell me the best way to unclog it......and can anyone send a diagram showing me where it it located in my car....its a 93 grand am 3.3L V6.

I just cleaned mine a couple weeks back and it made a world of difference. The easiest way to clean it is through the blower motor passage. You need to remove the blower motor (it is behind the round rubber box just behind the alternator) If you have had your blower motor replaced in the past by a dealer, the panel will already be cut. If it has not been replaced, you can either cut the panel in a complete circle as the shops do or attempt removing the entire blower passage (it is a big job which is why the shops cut the panel). If you are unsure of how to cut it, check with a shop. Once you pull the blower out (it will come out without removing the alternator, you just need to twist and turn it a little bit) you will see the passage where the air goes down and through the evaporator core (towards the middle of the firewall) I used a vacuum with a thin hose and sucked up all the leaves and crap. Be careful do not damage the core. It is likely all black in colour from the grime, but it is up against the firewall. Also be careful of the resistor in front of it. You won't be able to see it, but if you reach in with your hand you can feel it. It feels like a spiral coil unit...just don't damage it. I placed a couple of towels under the vents inside the vehicle just in case some water go in. I then sprayed the passage and core with orange degreaser as best I could, then followed with the hose. It will drain on the ground through the evaporator core drain, then repeat. I did this about six times alternating with the shop vac to suck up the leaves and crap that would float up. Eventually you will see the core turn a nice tin colour. Put everything back together and enjoy the air flow.
