"Brake" light and "Change Oil" light...and other light issues...
Hey again...
Eversince I got my '98 intrigue, it had this problem with the "brake" light on the dash. Everytime I start the car, drive a few feet, I will hear this loud clicking noise. I can feel the clicking in my steering wheel and in the brake pedal if I press it while it clicks. After all the clicking, the "Brake" light comes on. What would cause this noise? And what is the best/cheapest method to get this fixed? Next on my list of probs is my "Change Oil" light. I got my oil changed a few weeks ago yet my light remains on. Now the funny thing about this is the light doesn't stay on. After a few minutes it will turn off and it only turns on when i start the car. And finally (sigh), my interior lights are giving me a hassle. My map reading and backseat lights never shut off....NEVER. I had to take the bulbs out so I didn't drain the battery. The funny thing about this is that the feet lights aren't affected at all. They fade when they need to just not the others. I thought something might have gone wrong with the little dimmer switch next to the foglight switch...but that was a wasted $66. Didn't do anything to fix my problem... Any help in these matters would greatly be appreciated. THANX IN ADVANCE!! |

To reset the oil change light you must turn the key on - then press the gas pedal to the floor 3 times - then the light should start blinking then finally turn off. You may have to try it several times before you get it right.

Brake Light
I had the same problem with my 99 GLS and saw the solution here a while ago. There are brake sensors located in the hub (behind the wheel) and the connectors for the wires to them are attached to little metal brackets which corrode and break, breaking the wires. The open circuit causes the brake light and other lights to go on. My mechanic cut out the connectors, spliced the wires together, shrink-wrapped the splice and secured the wires with wire-ties so they wouldn't pull apart when the wheel turned. Worked great, no lights, no vibration in the brakes. This is much cheaper than replacing the sensors which requires removing the hub. Good luck.
