Engine rattle on cold start-up?

Just started doing this about a month ago, seems to get longer every morning. Up to about 15 seconds now... Sounds like a collapsed lifter or even piston slap, but it goes away and does not come back until the next cold start (i.e. overnight). I've read a little about this on the web, and that GM basically won't do anything for us with regards to fixing the problem. Has anyone found a solution to clearing up the noise???

i started using mobil 1 full synthetic fluids. it seemed to help some, but not completely fix the problem. im thinking of using some lucas oil treatment or something simular to see if that helps.

Rod knock. VERY common. Last for years as long as its only noticable when cold (first few seconds). Most likely #7 or #8 due to heat and last to get oil. Once oil is pumped threw the engine, all ok. Oil will drain back down over a period of time (over night).

Its NOT rod knock. It is piston slap. Click on the link and read your heart out. Piston slap is afairly common issue on the NBS trucks and one that GM will extend your engine warranty until 100K. If you bring it up to the dealer.
