custom turbo help

I'm trying to get a decent custom turbo setup on a LS and was wondering which turbochargers would give me 12lbs of boost because I don't plan to do anymore than that for a long time if ever. And also what are ALL the parts I need. I have researched, but heard too many different things and I just want to clear things up. I don't want to spend anymore than $2k if possible. My goal is 250whp(Is that possible with 12lbs of boost on stock internals?). Any recommendations would help a lot.

After reading this post it is clear that you still have a lot of research to do before you can turbo anything. I would suggest reading Maximum Boost by Corky Bell first and go from there.

Re: custom turbo help

And you need new injectors, upgraded fuel system, engine management, tuning, the list keeps going. Theres more to it than you know. Like 97integrals said keep researching.

Re: custom turbo help

A turbo for two grand, I laugh at you my frined. Sadly turbo kits are not that overprice. The old saying you get what you pay for comes into play here. The most important things you need are the basics so the turbo works. Then you need to definitely get a new ecu and also need to do dyno testing to tune your car. If you do not tune your car you rist blowing your engine. Don't you dare run a turbo without tuning, that is why engines blow. Keep in mind with 250 whp you will need a new cluth, also your transmission may not be able to handle that kind of power, it may be able to though. 250 hp may be a little high, at 12psi that may be do able but keep in mind the more psi you are running the more risk you have. Also psi depends on the size of the turbo a large turbo with 12 psi is different then a small turbo with 12psi. I do not recommend custom. Go with something reputable like greddy. It may cost you money but it is safer and less work. Trust me, if you were to spend half the time it would take you to set up a costom turbo kit and just work, the hours will easily give you the extr $1100 you will need for a greddy kit. Remember, if you mess up your car you will lose you $2000 plus your engine. Total losses equalling over $5000 plus no car.
