my 87 325i odometer just quit- everything else works as normal, except for the trip odometer too. Is the ODO electronic or cable driven????
thanks! |

Re: 1987 325i odometer just quit working
ok folks- I figured it out! After coaxing the instrument cluster out, I took it apart and took out the speedo. Then the speedo drive geartrain is accessed by taking off a little clear plastic cover. I found a broken tooth in the geartrain, and the tooth was jamming up the gears. I pulled the little tooth out and rotated it by hand and the ODO moved- so mine is now working fine even with 1 broken tooth. Now I see how easy it is to roll an odometer backwards- not that I would do it.

You're still going to have problems with your odometer.
Go to http://www.odometergears.com/ and order the whole set of gears for your odo. It's not cheap but it's cheaper than a new cluster and you won't ever have to worry about the odo gears again. I did it on my 318i and a buddy got them for his 325. |
