What steps do I need to take to prepare my car for Forced Induction? (junkyard turbo)

Name says it all. What do I need to get done? And what kinda price am I looking at? You know my ability with the car... I can turn it on just able fine... how much can I do myself?

planning on 20psi at MAX but proollly 14-16 psi daily driver unless someone suggests otherwise.

I say if your really serious about this Xeno, i say really do it man. Seriously man. I don't know how to go about it, but i figure you may have to get a rebuild with lower compression, since you want about 20psi max. I would love to get that vortec super charger that they offer for the 3rd gens v8. Shit cost about $4000 for everything, cool if i had the money, but i'm broke dude. Like i said xeno, if you really wanna do it, go for it.

Re: What steps do I need to take to prepare my car for Forced Induction? (junkyard turbo)

Well you're going to need to get alot of the internals of your engine (Valves, rocker arms, pushrods, pistons, fuel pump, injectors, etc..) replaced and upgraded with stronger parts before you put a turbocharger on. Of course you can put one on without replacing all of those and keep all your stock parts, but it will severely decrease your engine life. The turbo system itself should run you anywhere from $2500-$3000. As for what you can do yourself.. well, I'd have a professional put the turbo system on. And if you're good with engines then you can probably replace most of the internal stuff yourself.

Check out this site for your turbo kit:

Is your motor 8:1 compression?

Then that amount of boost will blow it up.

That is still pushing it with a 9.4:1 CR.

Re: What steps do I need to take to prepare my car for Forced Induction? (junkyard turbo)

Forged internals aren't going to keep it from detonating...Just going to make it last a little longer before you burnup a piston etc...etc... With that compression good luck getting 14-16 daily driver on pump gas...

Jesus don't even try it. too much compression, too much overlap in the cam, too much lift in the cam, not the right eletronics, not the right crank, not the right pistons, not the right connecting rods, not the right valves to run that much boost.

also remember that you need to make sure that you junkyard turbocharger may not be capible of running 20 PSI. What size engine is it off of? If it was a four banger I promise that that turbo will be out of wind by 9-11 PSI max.

You also need to upgrade your fuel system, pump and all. I am guessing that right now you have 19 pound injectors or something like that. if you go turbocharged, your looking at at least blue tops which are 32 pound injectors.

Just because you go forged internals does not mean that you willl not deatonate. all forged internals do is just let you be more lax in your tune and deationation. they will burn up just the same.

Now you could to that compression raito and that ammount of boost with some killer intercooling and 118 octane race fuel (11 bucks a gallon)

On top of that you will need something to watch your knock retard, o2 millivolts, and other various inputs to keep in tune.

If you want a forced inducted car, go buy a GN or a TTA. in the long run it will be better.

How much do GN's and TTA's go for? (TTA v6 or v8)
