Motor Swaps and Trouble shooting

I have a 98 eagle talon with the 420a motor. I totaled the s.o.b and after a month, i got it back on the road. Now a few months later, when I first start it up in the morning or whenever, it has a nasty little sound coming form the top of the motor. I think it is the lifters or something I don't know. It has 143000 miles and will still run 145 mph no problem so do I need to be worried?? If the worst is the problem how much does a rebuild kit or new motor cost. If i have to get a "new" motor, which model or gen talon or eclipse motor will work. Another thing, a guy with a 98 Neon r/t wants to trade my car for his car and 1800. Worth it?? Is the 2.0 in the r/t any comp for the talons 2.0?? Srry I know its alot but I need alot of help. Thanx

Re: Motor Swaps and Trouble shooting

I would say its not worth it for the neon. NEON's are gay IMO. For a new motor you can use a motor out of a gen 2(95-99) Eclipse or talon. Also the 4cly chrysler avenger. Same motor 420a. On that note avengers have the same door handles and the same interior.

Re: Motor Swaps and Trouble shooting

A 4g will not fit. The 4g63 has totaly different motor mounts/tranny. For parts dsmtrader.com/the classifeds on dsmtuners.com.

Re: Motor Swaps and Trouble shooting

a 4g63t is an expensive swap. If you can find a 2g turbo hit in the back or something at a junkyard were you can rip out the motor, tranny, crossmember, ecu, wiring harness, axles, umm a bunch more shit and get a decent deal on it all then go for it.

yeah thats right plus you have to cut out the old crossmember, weld in the new one, fabricate custom motor mounts, tranny mounts, ect. im not sure if the shift linkage out of a gst will hook right up but if not theres a issue too.

Frankly most people find it easier to get what they can for there n/a and buy a turbo. For broke peeps like me in a bunch of debt its not really an option right now. However, if I had to choose between taking a loss on my car then buying a turbo vs. all the time, money, and cussing involved in this swap I'd take that financial hit anyday. peace

Damnit damnit damnit. I knew in my head this was gonna be one hell of a task, but hey I love my talon. Its like no matter what happens, I can get in my car and cruise it all away. Yall know what I am talkin about. It was the stock pewter color, but when i totaled it, I painted it Skittle orange. Orange get a bunch of looks. Anyway I appreciate all the advice. Know of anywhere to talk to someone about gettin a motor?? Thanx.

Re: Motor Swaps and Trouble shooting

can the 420a be built just as hard as the 4g at a decent price?? Say you take a stock 420a and a 4g63 build the piss out of them both, both non-turbo, which one will produce harder do you think?

No shit was just about to say something like....BULLSHIT

For one thing, unless you have monster mods and you overrode the ECU, you would barely be able to do 130, and that would take FOREVER to get there. Not even half the turbo guys can make the claim of hitting 145, let alone your busted ass 420a non-turbo.

Re: Motor Swaps and Trouble shooting

It was one thing for defending yourself but you took it overboard so now you can STFU! Your car is obviously "Busted" thats why your here am I correct? Exactly! You also obviously didnt read the rules because your car would be in your sig and I wouldnt be needing to post right now so READ THEM or you wont make it very long here. That isnt a threat either, its a promise! You came here for help, you are the newbie that claims 145 in his ESI. Is that some sort of accomplishment for you? Do you think your fast now? I do 140 every day as I enter the highway from the on ramp. Big whoop. This is the internet man, if you get all but hurt over someone calling your car "busted" when it really is... You need to get a life! Everyone just needs to chill out. Big deal, so you did 145 in your ESI. Congradu-fucking-lations. No need to start an E-Fight over it.

Ok everyone back on topic. If there is another off topic post it will be deleted. If you want to talk about somthing or fight over it, do it through PM's!
