First problem with my DSM

Well, on the way home from work Friday night, whenever the rpm's would get to around 3k-4k it would cut out. And around 3k is where the turbo really starts to kick in. Saturday morning I popped the hood and check the hoses. The hose that goes from my air intake to the turbo was cracked a bit right around where it connects to the turbo. I tried taping it up with duct tape and electrical tape, just as a temporary fixer and it didn't help at all. Should my turbo or anything else be damaged because of this? I know I need a new air intake housing and the hosing that comes with it, and I'm sure it isn't too expensive, but I just wanted to know if I should be looking for other damage to other parts of my car besides just the hose thats cracked.

Re: First problem with my DSM

there shouldnt be any olther damage to anything unless some object got into the hole and flew into the turbo.....you car is running bad because air is entering the turbo after the MAF sensor causing your computer to get the wrong reading inturn making the over all ride crappy. i would recomend going with a metal intake or an upgraded intake for that matter....if it breaks ,upgrade it!

Re: First problem with my DSM

ebay!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33659

that is a little more spendy than the one I got a while back but it's just an example... if you don't have a FIPK (K&N) that one would be decent...otherwise you can find the same intake without the filter....

Other thoughts off the top of my head is possible boost leak(always worth checking for)... or plugs might be getting a little older....
I don't know what plugs ya got but would recommend the NGK BPR7ES's... gap them at about .028... in that area...
97 3clipse is right about the unmetered air which would cause your engine to run a little or alot on the lean side...

I have a little experience on this....

If you have a bigger sized aftermarket air filter, like a K&N FIPK, you might want to rethink a metal intake pipe unless you are positive the pipe is the same dimensions as the stocker. I made this mistake. I have the FIPK and I bought the extremepsi.com intake pipe without the filter. They didn't say that their pipe is longer than the stock, which caused me some clearance and spacing problems because they want you to buy their filter lol. Needless to say, my filter was shoved all the way against the fender wall. So, I'm in the process of returning that one, and I'm waiting for my Dejon tool intake pipe to come in the mail. I asked Dejon, and their pipe is the exact dimensions as the stock.

Well, its not really running at all past 4k rpms. It doesn't even feel like I'm getting much boost. I can hear it spooling up, and it still expells pressure from the BOV, but I'm not getting much extra power from the turbo. Does anyone know how much the stock air intake costs?

Re: First problem with my DSM

Don't buy a bomz intake. First of all it is too long, and THEN after about a day the coupling started going bad. Then it doesn't even fit on the turbo very well, it's like half an inch too big... And besides that it doesn't even fit on it's own end of the intake pipe..!!!

To top if off, they only give you one clamp to go around one side of the MAS couplings.... so if it gets loose, you are losing power.

Whats bomz? I didn't order the whole intake, just the part that goes from the intake to the turbo, it looks like its the same as stock, and it looks like it includes all of the clamps.
Its the first one here: http://www.dejontool.com/DSM%202gC%20Intake.htm
