AYES, anyone done it?

Havent been around much, been busy and such, starting some AYES program (automotive youth education system, thought the S could be wrong) So now im working in a repair shop with a mentor and such.

Basically I was just wondering if any have heard of it/ are doing it/ did it?

yep, ill be doing it next year and the year after

for anyone that doesnt know, basically its a program that works with vocational schools that students go to during their high school day(it's taken as an elective) for automotive service technician. basically they set you up with a mentorship(paid!) and at its taken during your junior and senior year. also you graduate ASE-certified.

ill start it next year! can't wait!

Re: AYES, anyone done it?

Well for us its not an elective, we just work 40 hour weeks suring the summer (I suppose I should kiss my summer goodbye)

So far I like it, I just got all my snap-on tools which is pretty cool (not a lot for $3000 value, still need standard wrenches, torque wrench, and some other stuff). yeah, but to all high school students who would like to be techs, LOOK INTO AYES

Re: AYES, anyone done it?

Yeah, all my high school had was woodshop and metalshop.. which were both taught by the same teacher in the same classroom, only at different periods of the day. And I just found out that the teacher who taught that is retiring after next school year, and they're not going to find a replacement afterwards. They're just going to do away with both the classes. That's just bull crap. What madness is that to have a highschool with no automotive class, and soon to be no woodshop or metalshop?

Haha, some backwoods schools there. We had a Vo-tech program at my HS waaaaaayyyy back. They had: Autoshop, Carpentry, Masonary, Welding, Plumbing, Electrical, Forestry, Cosmotology (for the girls), Secretarial class (again. girls), and A & P mechanics (probably a couple others I can't remember) All this and back in the dark ages of the 70's.
What the hell has happened to education in this country?

Re: AYES, anyone done it?

I guess they figure all the "menial" work will be outsourced to foreign countries anyway. God knows I wish I could have taken an auto shop course or 6.

Re: AYES, anyone done it?

My dad works with that program at his shop, it's a very good program if you have a good automotive program backing you up, you'll get excellent training. Good luck man

Re: AYES, anyone done it?

I took a semester of Auto shop... the Teacher was a ricer kind of guy and we didn't get along when I asked where the other half of his engine was in his "race car." (It was a straight 4)
