Camaro noob here.
yeah, I know
don't flame me please (even though you seem like a nice bunch) but I'm looking for a camaro but I have a few questions to ask before I decide what to buy I want a 98-02 gen (thats 5 right?) preferrably a V6, and I'm wondering if it can beat an 03 stock Mustang (V6 as well) if not, how much work will it take? What do you think would be the difference in insurance in a 97 Corolla and a 98 Camaro V6. And how much more for a V8 monthly? Lastly, how many miles will the vehicle be good for? I'm looking to drive it about 7 years until I'm out of college and hopefully making a handsome salary. thanks for all the help, I really don't know much about cars at all, but I want to change that, thats why I'm here! |

Difference in insurance.. try alot. Sports car + young male = rediculously large payments. My recommendation.. try to get on your parents insurance. My payments are $207 a month, and every other insurance company out there quotes me at over $300 a month. So good luck with that. As for how long the vehicle will be good for. Well that depends on alot of factors. If you buy one that the previous owner took real good care of, and you continue to take excellent care off, then there's no telling how long that car will last you. But all in all, if you take good care of your car, then it will always take good care of you. Good luck, and welcome to Automotive Forums!

^Basicly covered everything The more 98+ Camaros are what you should be looking for, they'll beat a V6 Mustang in the HP rating but it wont take many mods to walk away in a race.

Re: Camaro noob here.
well year to year it couldnt beat it, but suppose you got some intake and some exhaust work done, then that 98 to 02 V6 could more than hold its own in a race with a 98 mustang GT

I could see the newer v6 camaros beating some V8 mustangs. The 96-98 were shamefully slow even more so with an automatic. A 99+ with manual could run a low 14 stock(I have heard of sparse claims of high 13's), but even then the automatic was nearly a second slower. I could totally see a V6 camaro beating a V8. The only V8 mustangs that are sort of out or reach for bolt ons are the 99+manual GTs and pretty much all cobras.
