Question When Did Camaros chage

When did camaros change from being carb. to fuel injected. I have a 90 305 and would like to put it into a older camaro but i am not sure when the change from carb. to EFI was made. Also how much trouble is it to change from EFI to carb or vice versa.
Help would be appreciated.

Re: When Did Camaros chage

If you're swapping, why stay with the 305?

Re: When Did Camaros chage

swapping to a carb is easy, you just take a big pair of bolt cutters, and rip out all the computers and wiring, run your fuel to the carb, (youll need to put a lower pressure fuel pump on or a low pressure regulator.) if you keep the factory fuel pump youll need to wire a 12 volt source on a switch to turn it on. or wire it into the ignition switch.) youll also have to swap out the factory ignition and distributor for non computer controled units.

to swap a carbed car to fuel injection, youll have to get a complete computer system and wiring harness from a doner car. or buy a standalone aftermarket system. and follow the install directions.

Re: When Did Camaros chage

TPI 305s started with the '85.

However there was the flirt with crossfire injection in the previous couple of years. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Re: When Did Camaros chage

Pros, possible higher peak hp, more familiar tuning to the old school crowd, um..... all i can think of.

Cons - lower average power, worse fuel economy, higher emissions, worsened throttle responce, loss of computer self diagnosis (aka error codes), failure to pass emissions if you need to, and probly a few more i didnt think of.

Re: When Did Camaros chage

brgko1 you can put that engine with the (TBI)? into your car. just be prepared to do a lot of work, swapping to a carb will be a little less work. what year are you putting it into?
