broken spark plug

My dad mentioned the other day... "if it aint broke, dont fix it.." well, i dont work that way. I was trying to change spark plugs on my cav since they have been there since the car was built (1993). I managed to break the part that fits into the socket off. IT twisted off, nad came out with the socket, so now the spark plug is broke in there. The porcilan part came out, i can see right in the threads of the plug and the bent tip thing are in there, its like if theres a tool to put inside the plug to twist it out i coud get it out, any suggestions how to get this out? Kind of an issue since its my method of travel to/from work.

Use your spark plug socket. The porclean part really does not matter. If the sides are rounded off use a large easy out. Good Luck.

Yeah lol, thats funny... me and my bud were reading this then we went to change the plugs on his car and we snapped one .. the procolen part... you can still get a socket around it no problem.. willl just thread out.

yer, i wish it was that easy, but its the hex part that came right off, and than i broke out the porcilian, so now its just the threaded part. A spiral type easy out doesnt seem to be doing anything exceptr breaking sockets, broke two craftsman sockets, good thing they are garunteed for life... Pound'n the PB blaster to it, even tried a little bit of heat, but nothing yet

Ouch, it is siezed if you are breaking sockets. Try applying heat with a heat gun or propane. Since you have an aluminum head be careful. You are probably going to need a heli-coil when you are done. If you go ahead and get one then you have the option of cutting it with a dremel and a rasp bit or cutting it with a very small file. Then your easy out should have an easier time. If you do cut it try to get as much of the filings out of the cylinder as possible using some tubing adapted with tape to a vacuum, or a dab of greese on a long stick. Good Luck.

I have a Kia Spectra and I decided to do a standard tune up on my car (change sparks included). Simple right? Wrong. One of the sparks did not want to come off. A neighbor told me to leave it ans take it to a mechanic the next morning because it could break. So I'm like yeah right, besides I have plans tomorrow. So I put all my torque into it and YEP! It came right off...without the thread ... man ... Next morning (change of plans) I have to walk to the nearest auto part to buy, what? So I get in the internet and I read this blog. Awesome! An Easy Out, a lot, a whole lot of PB Blast and patience (the last one is very important if you want to succeed and not go crazy in the process). Grab a couple of beers and it will definitely do the trick. I'm a woman and I did it. Trust me all my neighbors (men) tried so the thread was really sealed in. Good luck.

Try an easy-out sized for the plug.

I had the same thing happen if I read the post right on a chevy vega (yes I did own a vega once) the plug broke off right below the hex and the center electrode pulled out. the only way that worked was a "little heat" and a easy out.
