V8 conversion

Ok, I sure a lot of you have seen the conversion kit for the Focus to swap in a 4.6L or 5.0L V8. It's been my understanding that this conversion is only for Foci up to '04. Would the conversion kit apply to the '05 as well?

Re: V8 conversion

I can't remember how different the chassis are for the two cars...I know that they aren't too different, but if you're serioulsy considering this, then call a dealer to check.

Re: V8 conversion

that is not the point the point is that the V8s sound a hell of alot better then the fours, or the six, and you can get more power out of a V8, and you can still get just as good handling with a rwd, as a fwd, with four wheel indepentant suspention, and no he should not be shot, and the sedan would be better for it i think, and what are u saying that a built four, would beat a built dohc V8 in the same car,ok.

I agree with Zx,
What idiot would want to stick a lightweight v8 into a small 4 cyl., good handling car? Besides Carroll Shelby, or John Colletti, or anyone who swapped a Rover aluminum block 4l v8 into their MG-Bs in the 70s and 80s? Or 302s into the Sunbeam Alpine? There is no substitute for displacement, and as I'm a guy who really likes small cars and 4-cyl ones in particular, that should be saying something. You can get the same power from a 4, I won't dispute that, and the sacrifice you make to handling is something to consider, but being able to light up the rear tires and hand a Mustang Gt or a C6 Corvette its walking papers in a Focus would certainly be sweet at the stop light wouldn't it!
Have a good weekend, and remember to take a moment tomorrow to reflect on the sacrifices made on our behalf by our Veterans and Fallen.

Re: V8 conversion

you can still make a great handling rwd, like the vett,rx8,911,and other sports cars. you can slide the ass end around corners, you can drift better, you can keep more weight on the drive tires for better take-offs,

Re: V8 conversion

It's not just a turbo kit, though. To build it properly you're looking at lower compression heads, billet rods, new exhaust, new intake, bigger throttle body, new cams,LS diff, and a computer to make a good, RELIABLE car. Sure you could do it without all that, and while you're at it, add N2O.You'll only be replacing your engine every 2k miles. By the time you pay for all that you're not looking at a huge cost differential between the v8 conversion and the turbo. Kicking ass with 4 cyl. definitely has it's appeal, but it's not THAT much cheaper if you do it right. For a conversion you did yourself, you would be looking realistically at about $10-$20k with engine. Turbo kit with above, say $10k.
