noise??

95 b'ville, has a mid range tapping noise, higher than a rod-knock but lower than a lifter. Really bad at start-up, but gets better. 145,000 miles 3800 supercharged. Maybe the coupler???

Re: noise??

Could be piston slap due to worn rings or a bad piston pin. If it is higher than a rod but lower than the lifters it has to be in the piston area. The supercharger coupler usually sounds like a rattling noise not a knock. You may want to take it to a mechanic and see if he can localize it for you.

Re: Re: noise??

I was afraid you would say piston slap, but I think you might be right, thats what it sounds like. It might be totalled after the hail storm last Saturday night. Thanks for the info. mike

Re: Re: noise??

It was piston slap, #4 was out of round, had the whole thing bored .030 over with forged pistons, deck milled the block and shaved a little off of the heads. Did the valves also. Next problem: How do you keep the tires from smoking, ha ha. This thing is fast, waiting for it to break in before I dyno it. Might try a new cam next or a bigger supercharger or both. Traction control does not work and it's really hard to drive in the rain without it. Any ideas??
