I have sooo many things wrong...

I have been reading everyone's posts...and I feel for you all, I've had so many of those things happen to my car too! However, I've never really been bothered by the constant visiting of my dealership because it has previously been covered by a waranty. Now, however that I'm at 78,000 miles on my 2000 Alero V6, and 3,000 miles over my extended waranty my car is falling apart.

My first question is...my air conditioner and radio have really been acting up the past few months. My air conditioner only works at the second highest speed. Until then the air doesn't even kick on, but once you turn it almost all the way up it blows like it should. What is the problem?
Also, my radio is possessed. It will turn itself on and off, it will go all the way up on volume and sometimes all the way down, it will change stations, change songs on cds, just at random times....what is wrong? And since they're very close in proximity do you think the radio and AC problems are connected in anyway? Maybe a short in some of the wires?

My next problem...My driver's side window will not work, and hasn't for quite some time. I have read in this forum that pushing down on the nob at the same time will help. I haven't tried it yet, but...if I do need to replace the motor in my window about how much do you think that would cost me?

Last question...I have had my rotors replaced 3 times, and had each of those resurfaced the maximum amount of times they could be resurfaced. This last time I had them resurfaced they were making a really weird squeaking noise so I took them in and the guys at the dealership told me that the squeaking noise was just water in the strut casings and was no big deal, they said they had just replaced thme with the rotors and once the water dried out they'd be fine. However, everytime it rains and I make a slow right turn...the loud squeaking is back. Is this a problem?

Thanks for all your help. I really wish I would've read all this before I bought the stupid car...it has been nothing but a severe pain. I have replaced practically everything on it but the transmission - I'm sure it will be very soon!

To me it sounds like you have a few minor problems; nothing too serious.

Anyway, first with your A/C the problem is the resistor pack. You can buy these at an auto parts store for about $17. There is a panel on the passenger side of the car under the dash behind the center console (radio/HVAC area). Remove the panel and you will see what you need to replace. I've never done it but I hear that its about a 30 minute job.

As for the radio, I had to have mine replace under warranty because it too was cutting out. The wiring was bad INSIDE the radio. I definately don't think that the radio issue has ANYTHING to do with the HVAC stuff. You can purchase one of these radios on Ebay for pretty cheap...about $100 bucks.

As for the window, I would say the regulator is bad. You can also get these on e-bay for cheap.

I get the same noise from my brakes/rotors when they are wet. It's not so much a loud squeek, but a deep gurgle. Mine goes away after I make a few stops and the water gets off the rotors. I'm not sure if that's what your problem is, but I would say that the next time you need rotors, definately go after market. GM rotors suck on the N body.

The blower motor resistor that Jeremy's talking about isn't a hard job, it's mainly a matter of whether you have the right tools. Here's a brief description of the job........

The resistor is located next to the firewall on the passenger side. It is in part of the blower motor plastic housing assembly, on the downside part of the assembly that is toward the passenger's feet.

To get to it, you will need a 7/32" socket and a universal socket adapter. It helps if you have skinny arms, but you will need to open the passenger door, and lay with your upper torso on the passenger floor.

Look up toward the fire wall and you should see wires feeding the resistor via a connector. You will see two bolts holding the resistor in the housing.
