Short of some sort - killing battery

95 Pontiac Transport - short of some sort and looking for some direction on where this one could be located at.

I had a problem with the wipers and used the fix that I found in a thread here at the automotive forums, which I have a huge amount of respect for, great work by everyone, great site. So I fixed the wipers by re-soldering the the broken solder on the circuit board.

While I was trying to fix this problem a short came up where all the gauges would go out and then when you turn lights on the door ajar alarm ... at least that's what I think it is .. goes off. If I don't disconnect the battery it will kill the battery. I have had to charge the battery with charger and the cables off the battery.

How, what, and where would help. Thank you

I had the same kind of a problem (battery kept going dead).
I found that the passenger door lock was not all the way back into home position.......I guess that's why my locks didn't work either.....Just a thought...it could be something simple.

I would try to find which circuit was the culprit by fuse isolation. One the offending circuit was found, then check each part that the particular fuse feeds.

Well I still haven't fixed the problem but something interesting to note. When all the gauges go out my wife played with the ignition and poof all the gauges came back on and it works fine. On intial start up they are off... and you play with the key in the ignition alittle backward and it comes back on.

I'm thinking of taking a look at the ignition. I'm just wondering too is that if I replace the ignition switch assembly will the new key still open the doors?

I would check the ignition switch. Sounds like it could be bad.
