what is the difference between the D150 and the W150

I am looking at a dodge truck that I can pick up cheap. I was exploring what the parts are going to run me and I cant figure out if the truck is a D150 or W150. Its an 85 4x4 with 318 and 6 foot bed. Any help?

The "D" designation is 2 wheel drive.

The "W" designation is 4 wheel drive.

the w150 is a 4 wheel drive 1/2 ton. the d150 is a 2 wheel drive 1/2 ton.

So the one I am looking at is a w150. I had a 86 4x4 ramcharger for many years and loved it. This truck should be basicle the same right? Is there anything I should look for that might always go bad with these trucks? Let me know.

On the older 318's, the only things that you'll probably ever worry about are the timing chain and the water pump. The chain gets stretched (or used to, it's been awhile for me) and needs replacing every 80K miles. Water pump may start leaking in that time also, so do them together.

These problems may have been solved by better aftermarket parts; I know you can get a double roller timing chain which should be bullet proof an last.

Check the frame where the steering box mounts up for cracks as well. Usually on top at the forward most bolt hole. Look inside the door jams just under the hood for large stress cracks in the cowl.
