gatorback autozone belt (noisy)

Since i installed this gatorback belt last year I have had a loud whine, something similar to the sound of a turbo, but dulled down. Almost a whine It got better so i kinda forgot about it. Since then i have done a ton of work to my car.

I have been hearing the same noise but very loud now. So loud that it drew attention. I asumed that it was the steering pump since the fluid smelled like oil burning in iraq. To my surprise when i pulled the hose off the pump and "profesionally" flushed the fluid, the noise didnt get better it got worse. While at work today I looked on the forum and reminded myself of the previous belt issue. I took some WD40 and hosed the hell out of the belt and pulleys. The very moment i hit the belt the noise went away.

Sounds stupid but I just thought that I would share.

I've been told a Gates belt is THE belt for the Aurora. All others seem to scream.

Re: gatorback autozone belt (noisy)

Why would spraying a belt with WD40 seem like a good idea?
There must be a reason for the noise besides the belt needing to be lubed.

Update..

I just replaced the belt yesterday with a Kelly - Springfield autozone midgrade. The difference was incredible. No noise, the Aurora is quite again. The WD40 makes the belt a little more plyable.

The belt job was sooo much easier this time around. I used the service manual instructions and hints from the forum and changed the belt in under an hour. It takes some time to jack er up and take off the tire.

Once you take off the tire and pull off the splash gaurd the job is pretty straight forward. I had to look at the belt layout picture about a hundred times though.
