Clutch Problem

I have a 95 Escort and the clutch will not go into gear when the car is on. If you turn the car off you can put the car in a gear. At first I thought it might be the slave cylinder but have not checked. I was reading the Chilton book and it said the problem could be light or low transmission fluid. So I checked it and sure enough it was low. I added some but am unsure what to do next. I don't think it will fix the problem any suggestion would be helpful. Thanks

Have somebody operate the clutch and look to see if the slave cyinder is working. My guess is you just need to bleed air out of the lines and slave cylinder. Easy fix.
