What exaust should i get??
Hi-
what brand/size exaust should i get for my '99 grand am gt 3.4 with dual exaust. I am looking for a power increase and a good deep sound, i dont want that high pitched sound that you get with like an insert on the end. I am going to have a local place install it for me and i would like to have some knowledge on this type of thing before i go. And if i do get a new exuast will i notice a power difference? |

Re: What exaust should i get??
Well, honestly, if ya just go from the cat. back, hp is too little to spend lots of $$$ on. You need to at minimum get a free-flow cat. before the exhaust for any gain to be seen.

Re: What exaust should i get??
SLP makes a great cat-back exhaust system for our car. With a typical 3.4 and an SLP system, you'll see gains of around 10 horses at the crank - the power will be more prevelant in the higher RPM's. A full SLP system usually runs 300 to 400 $$. They sound great, add a decent amount of power, and will give you better mileage. If you were to run a SLP system with a magnaflow high-flow cat (like Tam said - usually around 100 $ i think), you'd probably get about a 15 hp gain at the crank.

Re: What exaust should i get??
You want power, ehh......RSM Racing has just introduced a set of headers for the 3.4, add a 2.5" ehxaust pipe along with Ridenour's recipe and you'll have a nice boost in power. And like Knifeblade said, if you keep the stock cat it won't be worth the money. Just remember before you do anything else you should at least have a good intake system, there's no point in having good flow out the tail end if you can't get a decent amount of air into the engine in the first place.

Re: What exaust should i get??
Our 02 Sensors are post-cat - correct. But a high-flow cat still does the job of a stock cat, so it won't throw any engine codes. It still cleans the air properly, it just flows much more freely. As for where to get the slp and cat, here's some links:
SLP: http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.m...ory_Code=GAEXH High Flow Cat (I couldn't re-find magnaflow, but this one is popular too): http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...34&prmenbr=361 - it's the one at the top. The 2.25" in / out |
