87 camry-runs at full throttle at neutral

Hi,
got an 87 camry. While driving normally I steped on gas and it got stuck. Car runs at full throttle while in gear or neutral. All cable seem to be normal (no tare, kink, slack). could this be dirty throttle valve?
Thanks for suggestions.

Anything could be sticking from the throttle body to the gas pedal. Probably your throttle cable or throttle body.

Clean the throttle body somewhat like this:

Clean throttle cable by putting teflon spray on cable by throttle body and working it in by moving the cable for a while. If you can, seal the end near the tube of the lubricant spray and force the spray under pressure into the cable.

If the cable won't move, then detach it from the throttle body and see which is stuck. If it's the cable, replace the cable unless you can free it up.

Re: 87 camry-runs at full throttle at neutral

Thanks much for your tip. I actually messed with it this morning. It turn out that the rubber hose leading from air filter to throttle body became brittle over the years and a big chunk of it came off and got lodged into the throttle valve, keeping it open all the way out. What are the chances of that? You never know.
