rough shifting
i just replaced the tranny oil monday, an for the first couple days it shifted so smoothly. but now its shifting roughly. it takes some force to go into every gear and gets caught on something goin from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th. i used 10w-30 from valvoline. is there another some other oil i should use instead or is it something else?

Re: rough shifting
Check a manual, but you normally put transmission oil in a stick shift. 90w

Re: rough shifting
i checked the owners manual and a chilton repair manual and they both said to put engine oil in it. 10w-30 or 10w-40.

Re: rough shifting
ye dude, I have this problem too. I changed my oil 2 days ago and i thought it would cure the rough shifting problem. I used Honda Manual Transmission Oil. It did not fix the problem. I might bring it to a honda dealership and let them diagnoss whats wrong with it. let me know if you find whats wrong

Re: rough shifting
Preludes have a chronic problem with their tranny syncros after a certain amount of mileage. If it sounds like your trying to shift without the clutch but you have the clutch all the way down, it's your syncro.

Re: rough shifting
I have trouble shifting my car into 5th gear after about driving it for a couple of miles. It started doing this a couple of weeks ago. Could that also be the syncroser?

Re: rough shifting
if its grinding, its the shift fork. there was a recall on 92-96 for a mismanufactured shift fork that causes it to grind going into 5th. happens with mine. it should be covered under warrenty.

Re: rough shifting
I have the problem too, my friend who's a mechanic said it was my synchros, just from the feel, but we haven't looked into it yet, because it's not too bad. But it seems like greenjack is right, I've heard of this happening a lot lately.
