Re: 88 cherokee stalls a lot
I'm not sure what the 88s had for transmissions, but I have seen this type of condition in GM and Fords when the lock-up torque converters fail...basically its like putting a stick shift in gear without pushing in the clutch.

Re: 88 cherokee stalls a lot
What if you don't hold the brake (Use the emergency to keep from rolling if you must). Can you apply throttle and keep it going?
Maybe you have a vacuum leak in your brake booster. |

with the parking brake engaged it will die also. some times going down the road at any given speed it will just start to diesel (trying to die) and if i push the gas pedal down it wont help. but put it in (n) and restart it and go. when it is running it runs like a champ.as long as there isnt a strain on the motor there is no problem! |

Did you change out the Crank Shaft Sensor too?
Also, have you checked out the large resister located on the right of the engine? You can try resetting the computer but removing the positive (red) lead of the battery and engage the ignition two or three times for a couple seconds. Then re-install the positive lead and start it again. Sometimes the computer needs to be reset. |

Re: 88 cherokee stalls a lot
try unplugging the vacum to the egr valve , then plug off the line, see if that makes a difference. Some faulty egr valves, (the vacum transducer before the egr, little round black plastic disc) will not bleed off and open the egr right away when it should not open until about 1500 rpm, and makes the engine stall right away when the gas is just touched a little, let me know if it works, worth a try.
