DOHC for SOHC

Was talking to a guy who I found out has a Saturn that has a bit of work done on it, so he has his old DOHC laying around. Said its got new valves, seals, and retainers and said he'd sell me the cover with it all for about 100-150. Haven't wroked out exact amount yet. What do you guys think?

The head will be going onto a '98 SL with about 76k miles on it. I would definately like the extra boost but is 100 worth it?

If I do end up doing it all... What else will I need? Keep in mind, he replaced this head with an after market so he's probably going to keep main parts and whatnot.

Re: DOHC for SOHC

worth it for $100? what more do you want?

what you will need depends on what you are going to do. head swap, engine swap, trans swap, ect.....

Heh. Well, I'm just going to be doing a head swap, engine I would believe would cost too much. And being that the blocks are the same between the SOHC and DOHC from what I hear, might as well just use what I got.

This was quoted from sierrap615 I believe in a previous post. The following is what is needed:

1. DOHC cylinderhead complete with valves lifters and cams
2. DOHC timing componants (chain and sprockets, tensioner, guides)
3. DOHC timing chain cover
4. DOHC cam cover
5. DOHC intake and exhaust manifolds
6. DOHC fuel rail and injectors
7. DOHC PCM (SOHC will work, but not perfectly)
8. DOHC engine wiring harness

I would assume I am getting line 1 and 4 if i'm not mistaken. And would the rest I would need to buy? Or am I incorrect?

Re: DOHC for SOHC

well the head is going on a 98 right? what year is the head orginally? you have a manual transmission correct?

you might be able to get away without numbers 6 and 8, but with out the wiring harness you can't swap in EVO power steering, but if you have the standard rack to begin with then forget that idea.
