87 firebird won't start

I have an 87 firebird with a 2.8 multiport injected v6. This car is a project car that my son and I got running again. We drove it around the block, brought it home and stopped running afterwards. It has had a new timing belt installed, a new fuel pressure regulator installed, new fuel filter installed, plugs, cap and rotor installed, and a new ECM was installed too. It turns over and acts like it wants to start, but will not. Was wondering if anybody has had dealing like this on similar type of car? Also too my son wants to know if a 90 model v6 engine and wiring harness will fit into this 87 body without modifications to the car itself?

Well, an engine needs fuel, spark, and compression. Since you replaced all the ignition parts, I would check the fuel pressure; pump may not be working properly. Also, make sure your getting spark to the spark plugs before going to much farther with parts. Maybe just got a cracked cap or a coil went bad.

did you check the possibility that you installed the wires in the wrong order, after you installed the new cap?

The first thing you always want to do when a problem arises is check the battery. Check your connections. You could be lossing too much voltage through your cables, draining the battery, preventing if from charging.

If you rule this out, I would go and get a factory GM manual for the car. Not your usual hayness/chilton manual.

Reason for this, I believe you have an electrical problem. Most problems are not mechanical in nature. You factory manual will have everything you need to diagnois/trouble shoot your problem.

Start off with the basics and move your way up.

Thanks to everyone that posted a reply. After painstakingly searching for this problem, it was found that a vacuum line going to the MAP sensor had a small split in it. This caused the sensor to not see any vacuum at all. Without this device working the car thought that the sensor had faulted and would not let the car start. So it is runnig again....

To be specific the car can't run if the map sensor doesn't work (it can but that's a limp home feature) because the amount of fuel is based off the reading from the map sensor...glad you got it running though, it's definitely a nice car to restore.
