Dana 35

Do the Dana 35 strengtheners help. I have in mind the Quadratec Super 35 Rear Axle Truss that bolts onto the rear diff to make it stronger. If I do that, will it put it up to Dana 44 standards, where I can put some 35 or 37 shoes on my baby without breaking things. Thats my motto these days, break stuff first, figure out how to fix/repair it later. If I wanted to go the dana 44 or dana 60 route is it even worth it, for my wimpy 4L. How much fabrication work will be needed?

Another question about gear ratio's. What is the best gear ratio for entry-level mud bogger/lame rock crawler to back on the road city driving for work to pay for busted parts and upgrades.

It's not worth putting money into a D35.

If you want to run 35's....you might get away with a D44 front and rear.

If you step up to 37's....you'll really be better off with a D60 rear and a D44 up front.

And how much Fab work really depends on what front/rear ends you go with and what you really want to do (keep it full width, shorten them, etc.).

Gear ratios really depend on what tire's you go with.

Ok alot of useful info there, Thanks. I was thinking 35" tires, on a 4" suspension lift on a SOA to give me a ~5.5" of course I'd need a SYE.

What if I go Dana 60 rear, can I still keep my original front axle? or should I go Dana 44 or even dana 60 front end. Is it even worth it for a 4L inline 6 engine? How much is it for a used dana 60/70? Here I see $500 for rears, but $1200 for a d60 front w/brakes

ya, front D60's are usually quite spendy, depending on where you're located.

If you want 35's, the best thing would be a 44 in the front and 60 in the rear. But you'll get away with a 44 front and rear.

Stop refering to it as a wimpy 4L!!! A friend of mine has an I-4 that can out-climb the old CJ V-8's!! You dont have to have massive power to go climbing, all you'll end up doing is over-torquing it and spinning your tires all the way down the hill!! Your climbing ability depends on the ratios... Oh, and speaking of ratios, Either the 4.10 or the 4.56. (if your wanting to use it on the pavement)
