Blinker strangeness

Tonight, i was driving, and i decided to undo the faceplate of my stereo and store it prematurely (getting bored with the music) as i turned on my blinker, it went off once, then stopped. It didnt work again until i had stopped the car and waited like 10 minutes. Then i started it, and it still didnt work, so i put the faceplate back on, and magically they worked again.

I tried taking the faceplate off again, but they didnt go back out, and work fine now. I dont want this to happen again, cause i try not to get attention from the cops, as the ones around here like to give tickets at the drop of a hat, and i cant afford that.

Any reason for this? I didnt check wires or fuses cause it was night, and im sleepy, but i thought id post this here in case it was just a freak occurence, or if its actually something very very bad.

Hopefully (though that seems mean) this has happened to someone before and knows how to fix it.
