Unhappy TPS question

Well i let my friend borrowed my tps from my b16. He said his cracked and he wanted to use mine to see if its the problem so he can go out and buy one. Well i asked for it back and he said he threw it out cause it was bad. Even the "shop" said it was bad. So then he said i can use the one off of the stock d16a6. Anyways will it fit? I'm startin to feel suspicous about my friend I don't know if he's tellin me the truth or not?

spy54 - you will see that little things that you dont really think of end up setting you back. Like for me, a missing bracket for the clutch cable is setting us back a couple days. I'm picking up one today, so hopefully it will fit. Otherwise, I'm screwed. After that gets put in, we can finally test and see if vtec is working, then maybe we can finally drive the car. We cant find the proper pins for the ecu though, so we have to rig it. Only nice thing is that I dont have to relocate the batery because the stinger battery I picked up is so little, the CAI passes right over top of it. It turns out my supposedly new radiator isnt in too good condition, so I ordered a Fluidyne yesterday. I guess it's only money...

TPS

Hey,
Any TPS will fit, as long as the motor was injected. Even the dinky D15 Dual point FI TPS will work. Just make sure it is still good, and that you put it on at the right position. You can test it with a volt meter by hooking it up, and putting the + lead on the middle wire (I think that it is red & black). With the throttle plate completely closed, it should read something like 0.4volts. With it fully open, it should read something like 4volts. If it is in the wrong position, it will throw a code and read funny voltages. If you need one, I have a spare that I ended up with after not knowing how to test it and replacing a good sensor. I think I only paid $25 for it or something. I'll hook you up if you need it.

That is how you know, and forget whatever the "shop" told your friend. I bet he tells you something like, "I bought this one off ebay..." in the near future. That is your cue to beat him over the head with a large, heavy, blunt object for being a trashy liar! (Just kidding, I don't condone violence....) Good luck with your swap. I am undertaking a re-do on my ZC in a couple of weeks, so I feel your pain!

TPS

That's odd... Mine did work, it just threw a code, which I later learned was because the angle was off. I drove it around for 3 days with the Dual point TPS on there... Does the year matter? Mine's an 89. Maybe they changed something?

Yeh my friend said he tested it with the volt meter and he said it got no readings? Man Spy54 trust me ..you MIGHT have all the parts but once everything is bolted on...do not expect the car will start on the first turn of the key. There will always be a small problem which can lead to bigger problem if you are low in funds like me Oh 4GZChatch i would buy that tps from ya but all my last 35 bucks went to EightOhOne for the intermediate shaft that i bought from him. Well my gurl is sendin him the money tomorrow actually. Maybe my friend is tellin the truth? I'm not sure though. I'm not gonna go and point a finger at him and blamin him for that tps. I have no proof that it works or not.

I drove mine around the block yesterday, but vtec was not wired yet. Hopefully, after we get the proper pins, the vtec solenoid code and knock sensor will go away. I was only shifting at like 4500, so I was in no way gonna feel much power, although there was a little. engine is kinda loud, probably because of the headers and the shifter is in there completely bare. We beat the hood up a little bit, cai and valve cover were hitting a little. Should look pretty nice when were done. Anyone know how much the b16 weighs vs the d16a6? the car looks lower in the front, but maybe b/c its been jacked up the last few days, who knows...

Well i bought me engine with trans and ecu for a good price. 1087.50 So altogether should cost me around like 1600 including the new tps if i can get enough money for it that is. I wish its gonna be a clean swap. Meaning that no broken bolts or no parts breakin while installing the engine. I mean rite now so far so good. Just the money is an issue for me.

The TPS are not interchangable - you can't even swap them between different series of B16As (I found this out the hard way). Baically it has to do with different angle settings for the different motors - which sucks in itself.
