my 99'Windslug leaks from the steering gear boot on the passenger side. Does anyone know if it would be just a seal and if it is possible to replace it and maybe how in general terms? I've already looked at it and don't know if a repair is possible or if I should replace the whole shootin ' match?

Re: Steering Gear Leaks, Baaaad!
Plan to replace with a rebuilt unit .... avail in the aftermarket area. Ford had a number of steering rack seals go bad in '99. I was lucky that mine failed during warranty.
You might check with Ford to see if your vehicle is covered under a "program". You might get a break. |

I got mine from Autozone for about $300. It's a rebuilt unit but it has a lifetime warranty. I could have bought a new one from Ford for $400, but I figure I'll have to replace it again before I get rid of it, so I went with the warranty. I bought a seal kit from Ford but never got around to trying to install it. If you're interested, email me and I'll make you a sweet deal on the kit, still new in the box...
