'83 Suburban tranny

I have '83 350ci with 700R4 tranny. It's shot. Can I replace with Turbo 350c out of an '82?

Thanks

Tom

Re: '83 Suburban tranny

Your selector won't match. You could also change steering columns to an older one or just go to a floor shift. I'm not sure but I think the 700 is a little longer. You may also need the front half of the '82's drive shaft. If you're going to make the change, try to find a good 400. I have an '81 with 454 & TH400 that towed my stock car & a lot of tons of scrap for 7 years & it's still running good. There's no body left but mechanically it's in good shape.

Re: '83 Suburban tranny

Would there be modifications needed for the Turbo 400 as far as you know? Would I have to change the column? The indicator doesn't line up anyway!

Thanks for teh quick reply.

Re: '83 Suburban tranny

I have a few 350's & 400's around here as well as 700's in vehicles. I have an '83 Blazer with a 700 in it here so I can get some measurements off of them & try to see what you may have to do. The 400 is a 3 spd. like the 350C so the selector problem won't change. Your highway gas mileage is going to go down a little without the overdrive but, in my opinion, I'd rather have an older, more durable, transmission & suffer with slightly worse milage. If you're working it hard or towing you can't run OD anyway. I'll try to get back to you tomorrow with it.
