ride height issues after swap
howdy ya'lls, i have a 93 4dr civic that is lowered .75 inches on neuspeed sofsprings and kyb agx's. after i swapped in a b18b the passengers side fender gap is .5 inches or so taller than the driver's side. i am thinking the b18b must be balanced differently than the d15b7, any thoughts on what i can do to fix this or what this is caused by, anyone else with the same issue? fender gap was uniform all the way around before the engine swap.
thanks |

Re: ride height issues after swap
talk to eckoman_PDX about it, he has the exact same car and swap as you and has gone through this exact same situation.

Re: Re: ride height issues after swap
Get front springs for the car with your engine, that would an Acura Integra. Even better custom rated Ground Controls but you should get different struts to take full advantage of the GC's. By that time you might as well just true coilovers

The springs are too soft for the swap, plain and simple. Stock civic spring rates are very very soft, so even 30% stiffer isn't all that much. Once you add in the weight on the bigger motor, the springs just won't cut it, even the "lowering" springs for your car.
You can do as jackasssi said and get springs for the car the motor came from, a 94+ Acura Integra. The springs frm this car will go right onot your car, so this is no problem. His better yet suggestion is better, but it sodes cost more. I went with Neuspeed spec Koni Yellow SP3's and Custom Rates Ground Controls. You car spefic the stiffer rate you want this way. The only other company I know of that allows you to have custom rate is Tein. Tein has only a 1 year warrenty though, while the Koni/GC setup both carry a lifetime warrenty the the orginal purchaser. Stiffer custom rate GC's and better shocks solves my problem, plain and simple. Car dirve a ton better too. If you don't have a lot of money, then at leats but some fairly stiff springs for an Acura Integra, but I still feel the Koni/GC's or true Coilvers is a better option. It will allow you to adjust the height so the gap is the same. GScivic7 is right. I did have the exact same problem. Stiffer springs and shocks that could handle them (custom rate GC's and SP3 Koni Yellows) solved the issue. I got the new shocks and stiffer springs, installed them and dialed in my prefered ride height, problem solved.

well its good other people have had this issue and know how to resolve it. i already have KYB AGX shocks so they should be fine. sounds like i just need new springs for the front. cool. thanks a lot for the help.

ok, sounds good. looks like they are only sold in sets of 4 anyway. i was thinking of going with tenzo r coilovers to go with my KYB AGXs, anybody have an opinion on them?

nevermind, i found a thread that said they sucked. i might look into the skunk2s or the ground controls.

Re: ride height issues after swap
GROUND CONTROL
KYB AGX's are fine with normal lowering springs up to 1.75" drop but they arent recommend for coilover sleeves. |
