it depends what he cited you for. For most offenses you just have to put the stock intake back on and get it signed off by an officer and pay the $15 court fee. For a specific offense, you have to put the stock intake back on and take it to the state ref to get passed in order for your car not to be labelled a gross polluter. If you get an intake that is CARB certified then they can't cite you for this.

Yes. What brand intake was it? If it was a real intake (i.e. AEM) then you're fine since it's CARB extempt, but if it was some cheapo eBay intake, then you have to put the stock intake back on.

it probably depends on the state too, i have never heard of anybody getting pulled over and getting a ticket for an "illegal intake".

Re: what happens if u get a ticket for a intake

Well there are 2 different issues here.

1st being that any modification to your car is technically illegal and they can right you a ticket no matter what aftermarket intake you have.

the 2nd, is emissions. In California, your intake must be CARB certified (K&N) and have the sticker saying so...otherwise you will fail inspection...and can be ticketed for that. Some other states may operate like this as well, but to my knowledge, CA is the only one.

Anyway, your 2 options are
1) put the stock intake back on, go to court, pay $30 for wasting their time, go home, swap them back again.

2) contesting the ticket by finding the legal decible level and using a decibel meter on your car. This may or may not work, and if it doesn't, you're stuck with the entire cost of the ticket. I'd opt for option 1, pay the $30 and move on.

I was just going to say the same thing Igovert said. Any modifications to your vehicle to alter them in anyway other than factory specifications is indeed illegal. But I see so many cars with intake mods all the time. Depending on what one you have. I know it sounds silly. Just put the old one back on for the time being. Do what you need to do in court. Then change them again, and hope you don't run into that cop again.

That may be the letter of the law, but I'll bet that if you're rollin some American Muscle or something that's not a compact you won't get pulled over.
