How many miles can a 1999+ truck take?

Im looking to get a newer truck to replace my older camaro just because im probably going to need a newer vehicle to put some miles on. Im looking for trucks and im finding lot of them but they have 100000, 150000 some are at 200000 and they are only 2000 year models. Thats a lot of miles to throw at these things i would think. Are they still decent to daily drive without problems and runability issues? Im looking at both v6 and v8 models. Ive heard good things about these motors but can they realy keep running that long? Another Thanks for any help.

Buy a truck with the fewest miles you can afford. They should last well into the 200,000mile range with care and scheduled maintence. But, if you buy a truck with high miles you won't know how the truck has been taken care of, has the tranny fluid ever been changed, has the coolant ever been changed. The oil most likely has, but how often, you get the point.
So a short answer is yes, these trucks should last a long time, unless you get a lemon like jeverret (hehe).

If you buy a used truck with high miles....I would only worry about the transmission the most.....The engine can take a good beating....I got my baby, which I use for personal use eg. to pick up chicks.....at 90,000 clicks and no problems....My other 2 silvy's which I use for work, have about 300,000 kilometres each....engine is like new, but both have new transmissions......(on blew at 60 clicks, the other at about 140,000 clicks).....

Re: How many miles can a 1999+ truck take?

My truck is a 99, and the truck and drivetrain (except engine) have 115000 on them. The engine has about 85000 now seeing as how the factory one locked up at 90K....i'll take the blame for it, so its not chevy's fault i dun guess....

My 1988 K1500 with a 350 and a 4 speed manual has 210,000 miles and it still purrs like a kitten. I've never even taken the valve covers off.

For tranny fluid, the manual recommends every 100Kmile for normal use or 50Kmiles for more heavy use, or dusty/dirty conditions. Eveything is in the manual, it will give you the mileage and/or time frame in which to change everything. eg oil 3k or 3months; antifreeze 12k or 1 year; tranny 100k ect... brakes 30k; plugs/wires 40k and so on....

Now, since you have 200K on the caprice, and tranny fluid has never been changed, do NOT change the tranny fluid, it will not like it if you do. Just add to it if it gets low. There is another thread that talks about why this is so.
