I need to know how to get into the driver door on my 2001 Cavalier so I can change the speaker. I took the screws out and started to pull the panel off but the window roller got in my way. I don't know how to get it off without breaking it. Can someone please help me?
Thank you! |

There is a little silver u-clip holding the handle on. You can either buy a 6 dollar tool to remove it or get a shop rag and fiddle with it for a few min till you get it off. Putting it back on will be a chore as well no matter what.

Re: Driver Door Speaker Blown
I made one with a coat hanger. Just need to hook something onto the u-clip to remove it. Push in on the door panel so you can see what's going on behind the window crank. You'll be able to see the clip. To reinstall the window crank just install the clip onto the crank handle and push the crank back on. Putting the handle back on is easier than taking it off.

Re: Driver Door Speaker Blown
just get a shop towel like crj said. its really not a problem just slide it in and start pulling one side of the towel at a time till it pops off. i usually take the rag and slide a peice in, then hold both ends of the towel in the same hand and spin it all the way around slowly. that usually works for me. but it is a pain to get off.

Getting the handle back on.
I just put my new speakers in the front doors(02 cavalier), and found an easy way to get the clip back on the window handle. All I did was put the clip on most of the way when I still had the handle off, and then push the handle back on. Since the rod that the handle goes on is tapered, the clip just snaps back into place.
For the removal I took a small eye glasses screwdriver and bent it in two spots with a pair of plyers. It works great! |
