Looking for the name of an Air Intake
i want to get one of those cold air intakes, that has an attachment in the middle of it, so like when it rains i can detatch the extension and have a short ram intake.
do any of you know the term or the name of this particular part, so i can look it up and buy it. cant seem to find anything on ebay. thanks in advance -Sicc |

Re: Looking for the name of an Air Intake
All the ones I've seen come in 2 parts for a 4th gen civic/2nd gen crx. A lot of people don't use the bottom part and they just stick the filter on the long part that goes to the throttle body. The only other difference I've seen is the cheap ebay cai's have a bottom (short) tube with only one bend so the filter just hangs on it vertically which sucks IMO. Get a good name brand CAI... bottom tube should have two bends so the filter sits horizontally (ram air style)...

Re: Looking for the name of an Air Intake
Are you talking about the AEM bypass? But turtlecrxsi is right, just get a regular CAI and detach it.

Re: Looking for the name of an Air Intake
Weither it its vertical or horazontal the filter will suck the same. Dont waiste money on a name brand piece of bent pipe. A round tube isnt an exact science. But like they said, all your cold air intakes are going to be two part due to installation and shipping reasons, so all you have to do is pop off the bottom and stick the filter up top. But unless your filter is going to get completely submurged under water you dont have anything to worry about.

1 piece tube's DO give you more HP gains. Less restriction inside the pipe, it creates smoother airflow.
All the Cheap knock off brand's are 2 piece. My AEM is a solid 1 piece. Looks better too. |

Re: Looking for the name of an Air Intake
Yeah i never knew/thought about it being shipped in 2 parts, meaning they are all able to be converted to short air. Ok so just look for a familiar name like AEM or something and im gtg.
Thanks again! >.> |

Personally I'd stick with any brand that can provide you with Dyno charts.
eBay brand's can't even come close, that's why they arnt dyno'd, and that's why they only cost $29.99. You get what you pay for. Here's a dyno on a 2000 Celica. Not a Honda, but you'll get the drift. Here's the webpage: Click Here ![]() the 2 dynos are extremely similar.. the only 2 things I really notice are exactly what Ive explained before 1) The AEM has alot more torque in the low rpm's than the PHR does.. It actually gained 11ft/lbs of torque over the phr at 3000rpms.. 2) The PHR has a power surge at 6,000rpms. The AEM does not kick in nearly as harsh but as you can see at about 6500 it comes back up and surpasses the power the PHR is making.. |

Re: Looking for the name of an Air Intake
I'm not suggesting ebay. You misunderstood. I have an injen intake and it's 2 piece. I wish I had a digi camera to show exactly what I'm referring to...

Your situation is different, the AEM By-pass valve doesnt do a damn thing unless your filter is completly submerged in water, then it sucks through the bypass valve. However the cheaper tube WILL give you less HP gains. |

Re: Looking for the name of an Air Intake
It doesn't even matter, it's a CAI not a turbo. At most you'll pick up a few hp and tq, nothing that you'd be able to feel or notice compaing a 2 piece to a 1 piece. It's not physically possible to feel 2 or 3 hp and/or tq throughout a power band. Expecially because each CAI will give you more hp in some areas and the other will give it to you in other areas. A CAI is a CAI, just go with a reliable/well known company and something you can afford.

Re: Looking for the name of an Air Intake
Now I feel like I've been ripped off. I paid $200 for my CAI and I always thought it was Injen because I could've sworn the guy who runs Meanstreets in Greenville, SC told me it was. There was no name on the box and it came from California. It doesn't quite look as cheap as the ebay ones though. But how the fuck are you supposed to use an AEM water bypass like I am if your intake is a one piece?
