2002 taurus cowl leak

Our blower motor was replaced at the dealership and we were informed
that this is a problem with many tauruses. We found a site which stated that this was a "silent recall" under TSB 03-15-6. When we informed the dealership in Toronto they were unaware. After telephoning Ford, we were also told that they were unaware of this. Can someone please help us? If you are aware of this recall and how do we go about getting our money back. This cost us approx. $400 CDN. We would also like to know if there are other people with similar problems. Thanks.

Re: 2002 taurus cowl leak

They are not aware of the recall because there is none. The TSB for this is not a real recall, just a Service bulletin. It should be done for no cost IF the car is under its original bumper to bumper warranty. If the car is out of warranty, we have to pick up the cost. The only way to get your money back is if the work was done while the car was under warranty, if not then your out of luck, sorry.

Re: 2002 taurus cowl leak

I had the identical situation with my 2001 Taurus except that I would get water on my floor at times. The dealership tried to find the leak and when the blower motor went they put it together and found the cowl as the problem. As a courtesy, they fixed it for free cause the car had 60K on it at the time- good people at this dealership. I too saw that web site (if its a law firm in NJ) and contacted Ford who did nothing for me. I threatened to sue them because I wanted my carpets replaced and they elected to do nothing. As I understand it the problem is widespread not to mention my problem with the water is not completely resolved.

Thumbs up Re: 2002 taurus cowl leak

My 01 Taurus had this same problem...in my case I inspected the cowl and found it was not sitting tightly against the windshield. It needed to be pressed down flat so the rubber edge sealed against the glass and two loud clicks confirmed the plastic "screws" had engaged to hold it in place. (No more dribbling noise during rainstorms!) My blower motor had rusted from this leak and stopped working-repair was going to cost $120 for motor (only available as a dealer part!) plus $60 labor. I found the SAME Motorcraft part online at RockAuto.com for $65--almost HALF-PRICE!! Installation was simple (3 screws remove glovebox door, 3 screws remove blower, swap blower wheel onto new motor (they even give you a new retainer to hold wheel on) and swap electrical plug. Whole thing took less than fifteen minutes and I didnt even get dirty---best part is I saved $115!!!
