2000 Range Rover Battery Problems

Over the last 6 months I have had repeated problems with a flat battery. If the car is not started for 5 days the voltage drops to 10 volts: the car won't start without jump starting or re-charging the battery. Apparently, the alternator is OK.

On more than four differrent occasions it has been into the authorised RR service centre, for at least 6 weeks in total, and still the problem has not been solved. The battery has been changed three times, the computer system (black box) replaced. The service centre is suggesting that there must be interference at my home that is causing the drain.

I have even checked with the company that manufacture my neighbours automated roller door but they have never heard of such a problem.

Any one got any clues? Would love to hear from you.

Further to this:

The car is OK at my daughters place but not here at my home. We thought it may be interference from a roller door. We spoke with a roller door technician about the potential for this and he said that a lot of new household appliances use 433 MH (as the manfacturers are running out of lower frequencies for things like portable phone handsets etc) and these are interfering with roller doors! The RR of course also uses this frequency. More to the point I recently, and around about the same time the trouble started, had digital cable TV installed at my home (with a dish not cable) and it runs at 433 MH. That may be the source of the problem.

I am going to try it again with the Foxtel TV off and see what happens...

NB. I only check the car every 3 days or the battery will flatten because of it's self checks.

You have a constant drain on your battery which exceeds the capacity of the battery. If as you say the alternator is charging at the correct rate then you discharge rate whilst parked exceeds the battery capacity.
You need to check the discharge rate whilst parked. very simple job, then check this with another RR of the same vintage. this will tell you if you have a faulty component in you RR.

My batery gets flats every 3 days. Battery charges correctly.
Porblem only with the Rande Rover. Freelander works fine. Any suggestions?
