Key Remote

Hi,

'01 525i, the Remote within the key has stopped working. I am unanble to unlock/lock the car without inserting the key. When I bought the car, the dealer replaced a fuse that operated the system and I am assuming I just need another .80 cent fuse.

Has anyone else out there had a problem like this? This is the second time in 7 months (since I bought the car).

Other than this, its been a great car!!! It would be very hard to go back.

Thanks.

I think that your key has a dead battery. I have a 2001 530 key that I use all of the time that just quit. The second key still works fine. They recharge while in the ignition, but any battery will die after a certain number of cycles. I hope that someone out there knows how to replace these battery, as my Bentley manual only shows how to do it on pre-2001 keys. It says that they are permanent on later keys, which is obviously incorrect. I wonder what a dealer would charge?

No big deal. I experienced the same problem and simply purchased another battery to insert in my key. Hopefully, this helps.

Turns out that the Fuel Door Lock actuator was bad, thus causing a short in the system. I have unplugged the actuator, until I replace it, and the Locking system/remote is working fine now.
