66 Chevelle SB Swap Out To BB
Hi,
I've got a 4-speed '66 Chevelle that has a 400 SB in it. It's been running really hot and I've already had to replace the heads once. I've got access to a 396 and am thinking of cloning this one to a SS. Any advice on switching from a SB to a BB? Thanks |

You need big block frame mounts. Try Year One.

Re: 66 Chevelle SB Swap Out To BB
The 396 will fit nicely in there, just need the BB motor mounts. The only real issue I had was the starter was so close to the headers that I had starter trouble. I recommend header wrap and/or a smaller high output starter for tighter spaces. My 396 was actually a 408 after boring, with the heads and the tunnel ram and posi and tubbed rear was a serious eye turner and a ton of fun. Ton of power. Keep extra pair of shorts in glove box :-)
