92 Cavalier Need some help

Please give me a hand. I have a 92 cavalier, 2.2 4 Cylinder and I've got a problem. It happened three times that, as I'm driving, the car will stall when I apply the brakes. I put it in park, it starts, but when I put it into gear it dies. I try neutral, no effect. I open the hood with the engine off and it usually starts again in a few minutes.

1st time - though it was the coolant. forgot to put coolant in when I picked it up (when I got it, it had been sitting in a garage for 9 months).

2nd time - had coolant but still did it. got a tune up. Mechanic said fan and thermostat work fine. the car only has 55, 000 miles on it

3rd time - happened really briefly. had been going 30/35 for a long stretch then came to a light and it died. lasted only a minute. Mechanic can't figure out what it is. Put fuel injection cleaner in my gas, hasn't happened since (two weeks ago)

any help would be appreciated. Hasn't happened since, but I don't drive a whole lot. warning: I AM NOT A CAR GUY. thanx

Re: 92 Cavalier Need some help

55,000 mi on a 92! Want to trade for my 204,000 mi? JK.

Very common problem with these cars, it's your TCC (torque converter ?controler?) Just unplug it. I noticed mine was unplugged the other day, I hooked it up and it hasn't died so I think mine's OK. Anyway it's not too hard to find, it's a 3prong plug that goes into the transmission, way down on the right side, you should be able to see the blue plug from the top, if not it's a little easier to find from underneath. It's almost directly below the battery.
