When it rains, my drivers side window leaks

When it rains, my drivers side window leaks. Has anyone else had this problem? I have a 2001 Z3 and the service dept. at BMW said the seal looked fine, but if I wanted it replaced it would cost me a ton of money. Apparently, the window seal is not covered under the extended warranty.

Re: When it rains, my drivers side window leaks

I had the same problem. What I did was take black silicone and fill the small hole that was in the seal in the front near the windshield. It seems to have worked. follow the seal till you get to the end and you will see what i amtalking about.

Cool Re: When it rains, my drivers side window leaks

Just what I was looking for. I have a 2002 Z3 and when it rains both windows leak , just by one of the 'cuts' needed to fold the roof . Gasket looks good so ...... I am in the same situation as you ....looking for an answer .
As you already know , the extended warranty does not include the roof ( convenient for dealer ) so when my rear window rubber gasket started to peel , I went to an independent repair shop who replaced the rear window with a slightly bigger pane , just barely enough to make two lines of stiches ( like the Saab has ) around ,thus eliminating the need for te rubber gasket . The whole operation just cost about $300.00 and now I have a window that will look good forever . If you fins a smart solution for the window leak , please let me know. I will also look and let youi know if I find something

Re: When it rains, my drivers side window leaks

hi i had the problem with my drivers side and just replaced the small bit that runs along the window its self and it has worked so far well so long as you don't put direct pressure on to it

Re: When it rains, my drivers side window leaks

I had the same problem on my 1998 Z3. Luckily, my dealer honored the warranty in 2002, and did the entire fix for free! 6 years later, I had a small leak on the driver side. This is what I did. I used silicone lubricant just like most of you, but also took the door panel off, and adjusted the window regulator limit to fall some 2mm higher. It's has no noticable diferrence in appearance, and works like a charm.

I would consider replacing the most problematic section as well, I like that suggestion.

Re: When it rains, my drivers side window leaks

has any one got some photos of where to put the silicone, i have the very same problem, ive tried a few things, i currenty have the hardtop fitted but i still get a leak where the side window meets the windscreen,
im not really sure where is best to put the seal because obviously at some point i will take the roof off and i done want the silicone to get stuck to the roof other wise i will be back to square one as soon as i remove the roof.
the only other thing i can think of for the hardtop is to fit a gutter to it, but that will ruin the look of the car unless i can find a decent looking gutter, which are not easy to find.
obviously there is a gap in the market for a fix for this problem, my friend has the same problem with his 2001 porsche boxter, and my aunt used to have the same with her mx5 with hardtop fitted.
