The Hyde Death pool ...

For those that were aware of the Death Pool on Hyde's engine, a winner has been paid. Danny aka rarh from mr2oc.com won with a bet on 200,999. Hyde's engine is opening up at 200,818. It appears my headgasket finally gave up.

The engine is on it's 3rd clutch, 3rd turbo and second tranmission

Re: The Hyde Death pool ...

what happened with the old trannys clutches and turbos? did something bad happen to them or did they just get old or you just wanted to upgrade or what?

Re: The Hyde Death pool ...

I bought Hyde with 180,000 miles ... so the original clutch needed to be replaced and the tranny was due to be rebuilt. Since I knew I was looking to build more power, I upgraded the tired OEM turbo.

I am still running on the 2nd tranny (a 93 LSD rebuild). I had installed a SPEC stage 3 race clutch that I beat to death in just under 2 years. I know have a Spec stage 3/5 combo clutch (new this year).

My T3/T4 turbo was replaced with a bigger GT35R this year. The T3/T4 was getting tired, but still ahd life in it. It is currently for sale

Re: The Hyde Death pool ...

So how'd you work out the Gasket was gone?
also let us know how the change goes, are you gonna drop the whole engine/tranny to do it or go out through the top? I may have to get mine done soon so if you can give me an idea of how long it should take so i know what to expect it'd be great too...

Re: The Hyde Death pool ...

We are not 100% sure it is the gasket ... but we will find out tomorrow

My mechanic does everything with the engine in the car. Back in '98 he replaced 4 pistons and rings in an MR2 for me and the engine never left the car

Re: The Hyde Death pool ...

As far as I know he took it apart last night ... and is putting it back together tonight

My mechanic works full time for Toyota, but he also does cars at home at night for extra $$.

If all goes well, I will be picking the car up Saturday and racing on Sunday
